Young Person’s Gender Assessment - How it Works
Step One
Call us for a free 15 minute chat to see if we’re the right service for your family. If you’re a young person, you need your parent or carer to do this call for you.
Or contact us via our website if you prefer email.
Step Two
Book your young person’s place in the eight-week assessment cohort at a time and day that works for your family.
Step Three
Gather any useful documents you may already have. These might for example include a legal name change (deed poll), a passport or other documentation with preferred name, or a list you have made of key dates in your child’s gender history.
Think about your goals for the assessment. Receive, sign and return your contract and client details.
Assessment
Step Four
Attend the first appointment (usually online) with your young person. Each assessment session takes around one hour.
The full assessment (six sessions) and report costs a total of £1500. Payments of £675 are made at the time of the initial appointment, and the sixth appointment.
Attend the second appointment (usually in person) for part of the session.
Step Five
Your young person (sometimes independently, depending on age) attends sessions three to six, at the same time each week.
During weeks seven and eight, we will produce your report and recommendations. The report is sent to you following our receipt of your final payment of £150.
Step Six
Have your say about the report. Hold in mind that we will need time to make any amendments, so your prompt feedback will result in the final report being produced sooner.
Receive your final report and recommendations. We aim to do this by the end of week eight.
DIGNITY Gender Assessment Services for young people and families
-
Parents and carers of gender diverse young people often wish for them to have a thorough, timely gender assessment.
Gender identity development is a complex process, and some parents and carers wish to prioritise safe, compassionate exploration for their child.
-
Some families have found that aspects of gender expression or social transition have been complicated for their child in school or similar settings. We can help to navigate that.
-
Families have asked for our help with the deed poll process to change their child’s name, or changes to their passport. We can help with that.
-
While diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria is something we assess for, our focus as clinical psychologists is on the young person as a whole, unique person, so reports include a thorough, psychological summary of the assessment, and the process is collaborative, prioritising the dignity of the young person and family.Item description
